Where to next?
There's a reason that hundreds of thousands
of bikers flock to Sturgis, South Dakota every
year. The Black Hills area has some of the
best motorcycle riding and sight seeing in the
US; The Badlands & Wall, Needles, Mt.
Rushmore, Deadwood, Custer, Spearfish, and
lots of less known spots like the Pactola
Reservoir pictured here. There are so many
places to go that the roads outside of town
never feel busy, even during the Sturgis rally.
Whether you go in August for the rally or not,
the Black Hills of South Dakota should be on
everyone's "Must Do" list at least once.
New England may be known for its beautiful
fall colors but it's a great destination in the
summer too. It's amazing that someplace
tucked in between the big cities of New York,
Boston, and Montreal feels so quiet and
remote. There are plenty of twisty back roads
full of wildlife to keep you on your toes and lots
of great little towns to spend the night after a
long day in the saddle. And if you're up for it
you should ride your motorcycle up Mt.
Washington, the home of the world's worst
weather with the record for the highest wind
gust ever recorded on the Earth's surface at
231 mph.

I'll admit it - I never thought I'd get a chance to
ride to Alaska. I always thought it was too far
away from Pittsburgh to ride to in the 2 weeks
we have for our big trip every year. And then a
few years ago on a whim and the advice of a
trusted biker friend we decided "what the heck"
and went for it. It turns out it's actually not that
much further than a lot of other trips and well
worth the miles. The absolutely incredible
scenery, wildlife, friendly people and adventure
definitely make this a motorcycle trip worth
taking. Can't wait to go back and see more of
this great state.
Kitwanga, BC - North to Alaska!
Glacier National Park is the home of the
famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the top
motorcycle rides in the US. The scenery is just
breathtaking and the old lodges are incredible.
Over the years we've met so many friendly
people in this area that it almost feels like
coming home each time we return. On the
north end of the park, across the Canadian
border is Waterton Lakes National Park,
another great stop. The roads and towns in
the surrounding area are awesome - some of
the best we've ridden.
Glacier National Park, Montana
This area is just full of great places to ride and
things to see. The 469 mile long Blue Ridge
Parkway known as "America's Favorite Drive"
is a relaxing, leisurely motorcycle ride.
Flanked by Skyline Drive on the north end and
the Great Smoky Mountains on the south,
there's enough beautiful countryside to keep
you busy for days on end. Other great rides
nearby include Deals Gap, home of the
Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles) and just a
little further south is Helen, GA, a great little
Bavarian mountain town with incredible riding.
Blue Ridge Parkway & Smoky Mountains
Yellowstone is a fantastic bike destination, but
don't stop at just this park. North of
Yellowstone is the legendary Beartooth
Highway, east is the beautiful Big Horn
Mountains, and south are the Grand Tetons
and Jackson, WY. You'll encounter terrain from
rugged and rocky to lush and green. You'll
spot buffalo, elk, big horn sheep, mountain
goats, antelope, moose, mule deer, whitetail
deer and more. And everywhere you turn you'll
find the nicest motorcycling roads you could
ever want. Northern Wyoming and southern
Montana are a truly a biker's paradise.
Yellowstone, Montana
The Canadian Rockies aren't just for skiing,
they're great for motorcycle trips too. These
high granite mountain tops may be covered in
snow year round but their roads are biker
heaven. Ski towns like Banff (one of the
coolest little towns we've ever stayed in) do a
great job of attracting the summer crowd,
including bikers. Connecting Banff and Jasper
is the Icefields Parkway, one of the most
spectacular mountain highways you'll ever
ride. Every bend is an awesome new sight,
more stunning than the last. You certainly
won't run out of great riding up here.
Icefields Parkway, Canadian Rockies
Like its southern neighbor Arizona, Utah is full
of vividly colored rock, blue skies, and nice hot
weather. There are lots of beautiful parks like
Zion, Bryce, Capital Reef, Canyonlands and
Arches, each with its own take on what shape
and color rocks should be. The roads from
one park to the next are full of good twisties,
smooth canyons, high mountains and one
exciting day after another. And once you've
visited all of these, head just a little further
south and see the Grand Canyon while you're
in the area.
